The Cemetery

Some people - like my wife, for instance - would take the fact that I spent an afternoon searching for, and looking around, the Iqaluit cemetery, as proof positive that there is not a whole lot to do in town, to the extent that any excuse for a walk will do.

She may have a point, but I was still fascinated to find the cemetary, with its rows of neat white crosses, most with just simple metal printed tags on them, giving the name and dates of the deceased. Many died way too young.

The site of plastic flowers showing up through snow, in places where no flowers could possibly bloom for months, was very poignant.
