Oddities
- only in Nunavut

Got up and walked to work about 8 am. Freezing cold! About -20 C with a windchill of -38.

Did three cases - two appendicectomies and a D&C. Had a nice lunch - Arctic Char and an excellent salad. Finished about 2:30 pm and headed into town to do some errands. This was a bit of a mistake, as the weather had got worse. Quoting from the official forecast

Occasional blowing snow. Wind northwest 40 km/h gusting to 60 increasing at times 50 gusting to 70 giving near blizzard. Low minus 27. Very cold wind chill minus 42.

That is certainly what it felt like. Blowing snow and nightfall made visibility about 100 ft. I was wondering if anyone ever got lost in downtown Iqaluit just going out shopping in weather like this! It was quite a struggle to head into the wind uphill back to the hotel. If they call me out to work tonight, I am getting a cab, even though it is about 1 km to the hospital. Though if the weather gets really bad up here the taxiis are ordered off the road...
