The Road to Nowhere

Another quiet day in the operating rooms. There were supposed to be four cases, but one patient changed her mind, and another's flight was cancelled by bad weather, leaving only two cases.

Apparently there are sometimes caribou behind the hospital and in the direction of Apex, a small village 3 km east of Iqaluit, so I decided to walk in that direction to see if I could see any.

I ended up on the "Road to Nowhere". This is the offical name for street which heads north from the edge of town. Originally it was intended to go to to the site of a new town dump, but then it was realised that the dump would be above a source for the city's water supply, so the project was abandoned, leaving the "Road to Nowhere".

Eventually new houses were built beside the road, so it does actually go somewhere. I took a side road off into the wilds, and took a few nice photos of the snow, rocks, and sky. Unfortunately, I did not see any wild life.

In the evening I went to the Movies - "Two Weeks Notice" was playing, with Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock. A fairly silly romantic comedy. Nice theatre, with decent popcorn, and movies which are only a few weeks behind Toronto. The cinema shows two different features each night, changing them once a week.
