ADMINISTRATIVE EXPERIENCE

Chief of Anesthesia at OSMH from March 1991 to July 1993 and Acting Chief from June 1997 to June 1999.

Introduced circle systems at OSMH, saving $ 20 000 per year on anesthetic agents, and reducing atmospheric pollution by 250,000 litres of nitrous oxide per annum. Some of the savings were used to buy a computer for the Anesthesia Department.

Introduced laryngeal mask airways, spinal anesthesia for Caesarean section, spinal morphine for postoperative analgesia in the ICU and in obstetrics, and assisted in the introduction of patient- controlled analgesia for surgical patients. Wrote patient information handouts for Obstetrical Anesthesia, Epidurals and Blood Transfusion.

Represented the Department of Anesthesia on the following committees: Medical Advisory Medical Quality Assurance ICU/CCU (91 - 93) Operating Room (92 - 96 Chair, 95 -96) Preadmission Clinic Surgical Mortality Cardio-pulmonary Services (90-93) Obstetrical Care Committee (98 - date)

Wrote budget requests, reports on Quality Assurance and Risk Management and developed Rules & Regulations and Goals & Objectives for the Department of Anesthesia.

Organized a two-day medical refresher course (Medical Retreat at Horseshoe Resort, April 1995).

At The Scarborough Hospital:
Prepared anesthesia section of Web site (at TSH.to). Represented department on Library Committee Aug 1999 - date.
